SAP 15 - Green Course
SDG 15
Life on Land
Green Course is a land and biodiversity conservation initiative of Sustainable Agenda Promotion (SAP 17) focused on encouraging communities, young people and institutions to protect forests, wildlife, soils and other terrestrial ecosystems. It recognizes that healthy land ecosystems are fundamental to human well-being, supporting food production, clean water, livelihoods, climate regulation, biodiversity and resilient communities.
Across Africa, forests, soils, grasslands and wildlife habitats face pressures from deforestation, land degradation, unsustainable resource use, pollution, uncontrolled development and other environmental challenges. Green Course seeks to turn environmental awareness into practical community participation in protecting, restoring and responsibly managing the natural systems on which people depend.
From Environmental Awareness to Conservation Action
Green Course is designed to make biodiversity conservation a practical community responsibility. Rather than treating forests, wildlife and land resources as distant environmental concerns, the program encourages people to understand how these resources are connected to food, water, livelihoods, climate, health and community development.
Through educational campaigns, tree-growing activities, restoration projects, biodiversity awareness, research and partnerships, participants can contribute directly to the protection and recovery of terrestrial ecosystems. Young people are also encouraged to explore opportunities in conservation, environmental research, sustainable agriculture, ecological innovation, green enterprise and environmental leadership.
Key Areas of Action
Tree Growing
Encouraging individuals, schools, communities, organizations and institutions to grow and care for trees. Tree-growing activities can help improve local environments, support biodiversity, protect soils and contribute to greener and more resilient communities.
Reforestation
Supporting awareness and community participation in restoring areas where forest cover has been reduced or lost. Reforestation activities emphasize not only planting trees but also nurturing and protecting them so that restoration can become a lasting process.
Biodiversity Education
Helping people understand the importance of plants, animals, insects, microorganisms and the ecosystems in which they exist. Participants learn why biodiversity matters and how human activities can either protect or threaten the natural systems around them.
Land Restoration
Promoting practical approaches to restoring degraded land and improving soil health. Activities may include vegetation restoration, responsible land-use awareness, erosion prevention and community environmental projects.
Community Conservation
Encouraging communities to become active stewards of their local natural environments. The initiative promotes collaboration among residents, young people, schools, organizations, researchers and conservation partners.
Our Approach
DISCOVER → LEARN → PROTECT → PLANT → RESTORE → CONSERVE → REGENERATE → INNOVATE → SUSTAIN
Our Goal
Green Course seeks to contribute to an Africa where communities understand the value of their natural environments and actively participate in protecting forests, wildlife, soils and terrestrial ecosystems.
By promoting tree growing, reforestation, biodiversity education, land restoration and community conservation, the initiative contributes to SDG 15 -- Life on Land while supporting wider goals related to climate action, food security, water protection, sustainable livelihoods and community resilience.
